NPG Self-Watering Pole System

The NPG Self-Watering Pole System is a simple, practical solution developed through real hobbyist growing and plenty of trial and error. After testing different moss poles, watering methods, and support systems, this design evolved through a collaborative effort with other hobbyists to create something easier, cleaner, and more reliable for everyday plant care.

Traditional moss poles can be frustrating to manage. Moss dries out, turns hydrophobic, and becomes difficult to rewet. Watering from the top is slow and inconsistent, and over time the wet weight causes the moss to compact, reducing airflow and overall performance. Keeping poles evenly moist often becomes a chore, and overwatering can quickly lead to root and plant health issues.

This system solves those problems.

Each setup combines a self watering pot NZ growers can rely on with a D-shaped aroid support pole and wick-fed reservoir. When you water your plant, excess water drains into the base reservoir. The wick then slowly draws that moisture back up, keeping the pole mix evenly damp without waterlogging the root zone. If the reservoir runs low but the plant isn’t ready for a full watering, simply top it up.

The D-shaped pole design reduces drying by exposing only around one third of the pole mix to open air, helping it stay moist for longer. The rear clip system allows the pole to open easily, making chopping, propping, or dividing plants simple without disturbing the entire setup.

Extending or upgrading is straightforward. Additional pole sections can be added as your plant grows, and moving to a larger pot size is as easy as transferring the pole and feeding the wick into the new reservoir. Simply tie the new wick to the old, top up with fresh medium, and you’re ready to go. Extensions can also be removed easily when it’s time to chop or propagate.
