NPG Aroid Formula is our in-house premium aroid mix, developed specifically for Philodendron, Anthurium, Alocasia, Monstera, Scindapsus and other collector plants.

This is the exact mix we use across our own collection and production plants — refined through real-world growing, not theory or trends.

Built to balance airflow, drainage, moisture retention and long-term nutrition, it supports strong root development, stable growth and resilience across changing conditions — with all amendments pre-mixed and ready to go.

WHY WE MADE IT

We wanted a mix that:

Performs consistently in New Zealand conditions

Every component in this mix is fully pre-blended to create a complete, ready-to-use substrate — no layering, no guesswork.

Each ingredient serves a purpose:

Orchid Bark – structure, airflow, prevents compaction
Coco Chips – moisture retention without waterlogging
Pumice – drainage + nutrient buffering
Fern Fibre – long-lasting structure, mimics natural conditions
Bio-Char – microbial support + nutrient retention
Worm Castings – gentle organic nutrition
Basalt Rock Dust – trace minerals for long-term health
Mykos (beneficial fungi) – enhanced nutrient and water uptake
Silica – stronger growth and stress resistance
Dolomite Lime – buffers pH while supplying calcium and magnesium
Magnesium (Epsom Salt) – supports chlorophyll production
Potassium – supports overall plant function and growth

WHY pH MATTERS

pH plays a critical role in how your plants access nutrients.

If pH drifts too far out of range:

Nutrients become unavailable (even if present)
Roots become stressed or inefficient
Growth slows and deficiencies appear

NPG Aroid Formula is designed to stabilise within an optimal range of ~5.8 to 6.5, where most aroids can efficiently absorb nutrients.

This helps ensure consistent uptake, stronger growth, and fewer issues over time.

No heavy soil or compost — increases rot risk
No sand — reduces aeration over time
No aggressive fertilisers — too harsh for sensitive plants

GROWING ENVIRONMENT GUIDE

Home Growing (ambient conditions)
Water thoroughly, then allow the mix to approach dry before watering again. Always use pots with drainage.

Cabinet / Grow Tent
Higher humidity = slower dry-down. Water less frequently and ensure airflow is present.

COMPATIBLE FERTILISERS

NPG Aroid Formula is a nutrient-buffered, biologically active substrate. It already contains slow-release fertiliser, calcium and magnesium sources, trace minerals and beneficial biology — so less is more when it comes to liquid feeding.

Choose gentle, low-salt fertilisers. Apply at reduced strength. Support the mix rather than overpower it.
